Damn skippy, SC2 beta is live! I am hearing from several other sites about the beta keys getting passed out. Unfortunately, I’m not lucky enough to be one of those people. In fact, I don’t think I’ll even have a chance at beta since I’m on a mac and all. /glum
I am still excited though!

Continuing on last week‘s trend of 3d artistic renders, this week we’re showcasing SgtHK’s work. He’s quite a talented 3d artist and has several works dedicated specifically to Starcraft fan art.
Blizzard’s head honcho, Mike Morhaime revealed in the Q1 conference call that StarCraft 2 will begin closed beta testing THIS MONTH!
We are slated to begin closed beta testing later this month. The beta test will be conducted on a global scale, including thousands of testers from North America, Europe, Korea, Taiwan, Australia, and New Zealand.
We expect a tremendous response from our players, and we are eager to begin this phase of development, as we enter the final stretch before release.
Blizzard recently previewed the new Battle.net that will be launching soon!
Battle.net is about to undergo the greatest update in its long and storied history as one of the world’s most successful online gaming services.
Greg Canessa, Project Director of Battle.net lists 3 design pillars of the new Battle.net and what we should expect:
Concept of a persistent character: a character or account that is online at all times with a full achievement and reward system
Competitive arena for everyone: more casual gameplay modes, custom games, co-op vs. AI, and a practice league as well as tools to make it easier to connect, i.e. friend’s lists & auto-match making systems
Connecting the Blizzard community: where communication can happen across different Blizzard games
Being somewhat of an art connoisseur, I want to start a new tradition here at SCH, showcasing various Starcraft fan art found on the web every Friday.
The inaugural post goes to the ridiculously talented OmeN2501 who is not only a skilled digital painter, but is apparently also awesome in 3d modeler/sculptor as well. I’ve actually been following him for a few years in DeviantArt.com, but I was particularly surprised when he produced this 3d piece of Kerrigan.

I know most of you guys are PC users, but this is good news to me! It was spied on the Bnet forums that the StarCraft 2 Mac version will be available on launch:
Also the StarCraft II installation DVD will include both PC & Mac versions of the game. Further details on digital download possibilities will be released as we get closer to the ship date.
